Graffiti Removal

El Rio, as an unincorporated area of Ventura County, lacks a dedicated graffiti abatement program, which means it's our responsibility to support one another in keeping our community clean. Since many of the tagged walls are on private property, HERO will reach out to homeowners for their permission before mobilizing crews to cover up graffiti. Together, we can maintain the beauty of our neighborhood and foster a sense of pride in our community. Let's work hand-in-hand to make El Rio a place we all can enjoy.

How to Report Graffiti to HERO

  • Email info@heartofelrio.org with the following details:

  • Location: Address, street name, and cross street (or share the location if using a smartphone).

  • Description: The structure or object with the graffiti (brick wall, sidewalk, etc.)

  • Contact Info: Your name and phone number, in case we need more details.

  • Photo or Video: Include an image or video to help us locate it faster.

Tips to Make Your Property Less Vulnerable to Vandalism

  • Act Quickly: Contact the property owner of any building that has been vandalized and emphasize the importance of removing graffiti promptly. Quick cleanup discourages repeat offenses.

  • Deter Graffiti with Design: Smooth, plain surfaces often attract graffiti. Consider using textured walls, dark-colored paints, or chain-link fences to make surfaces less appealing. Anti-graffiti coatings are also a great option.

  • Green Your Space: Plant trees, shrubs, or climbing vines to block access to empty walls. Whenever possible, use California native plants to support local ecosystems while enhancing your community.

  • Light It Up: Install motion-sensor lighting in areas prone to graffiti. Well-lit spaces can discourage vandals and improve community safety.
